WebNov 20, 2024 · Martin Fortescue by marrying Elizabeth Denzill, heiress of Richard Denzil, was the first Fortescue to live at Buckland House, Buckland Filleigh, Devon in the 1454. The house was burnt down in 1790 and it was its rebuilding that bankrupted the family. It passed out of the family when John Inglett Fortescue sold it in 1840.
