WebI don't know much about knife project but you can tab into edit mode and use the knife tool (K). Click and cut your jagged edge and with all of the vertices in your line selected hit (V). This will separate your line into two. You could do the same with a segmented line if you want. Let me know if you need any further clarification

First you select in object mode the object which shall be cut. Then switch into edit mode. Then with the Control key pressed you select in the Outliner the geometry which is the cutter.
