I think the XE268 will probably make the most power, but the L79 cam will give you a good sound...depends on what you're after.

I predict 200 hp with 9:1. A bone stock 350 will make that. With your current gears/converter it will be a dog until the rpm comes up.

WebJan 2, 2013 · There's a huge difference in compression ratio between 64 cc and 70 cc. With a big cam you need compression ratio to make it work. My thought is that you need to back off to something like 225º @.050 on the intake, maybe even 215º. My guess is you'd be more pleased with the performance of the latter, especially if you have 70cc chambers. brow honey wholesaleWebAug 19, 2013 · The 427 in the wagon is my first Chevy big block and my first solid lifter cam and my first set of tube headers. I've run the valves three times and the thing only has 500 miles on it. I know what lifter/rocker clatter sounds like from the L79 when I once set a few hydraulic lifters too loose. I ran a genuine Chevy L79 cam in a 350 with 9:1 compression, a TH350 with stock torque converter, and 3.55 gears. Honestly, it was a dog. I swapped to a Comp XE262H, and the car ran MUCH better.
